Welcome back, First Gens!

This week, as we continue discussing the power of community, we welcome to the podcast Jennifer Troya Biggers! Jenny is an artist, runner, and passionate advocate for community and accessibility. She is dedicated to creating accessible learning experiences for learners with disabilities in higher education and professional programs. Jennifer is also known as an award winning lettering artist and maker of beautiful artwork. She has been featured on Buzzfeed, known for her partnerships with various brands, but her favorite thing to do and share is how she builds and finds community wherever she goes.

Jenny Community The First Gen Madrina

Jenny’s journey is inspiring to us all. She shares with us how she has embraced her passions and has learned how to balance her mental, physical, and emotional health. Jenny also shares with us how she creates beautiful hand-lettered art, ranging from wedding signs to milestone boards for families. Although it started off as a hobby, it has  turned into an opportunity to build a community on social media. She explains that creating these custom pieces allows her to be mindful, breathe, and to reflect, all while producing something meaningful that families can cherish. It’s a form of self-care for her, and a way to connect with her community.

Community as a First Gen

Jenny also shares with us how community was crucial for her when she moved from New Jersey to California with 2 small children. She found the tribe that she needed in California, while also staying connected to her family and community in New Jersey. Jenny shares that although it is not always easy, community is an essential key to connection for her!

Overall, Jenny tells us about the importance of community and being open to talking to others. Whether it’s connecting with people in person or online, Jenny believes that there’s a community out there for everyone.
