Welcome back, First Gens!

As we continue this month’s theme of The Power of Community, this week we welcome Kisha Zullo, a powerful entrepreneur and dedicated women empowerment leader.

Kisha Zullo

Kisha Community The First Gen Madrina

Kisha was born and raised in Jamaica, West Indies, and was raised with the values of integrity, hard work, kindness, and discipline by her mother. These values have guided her throughout her life, helping her become the visionary leader that she is today. Kisha is the founder and president of Events of Joy, an event planning company that specializes in creating impactful live and virtual events aligned with their clients’ missions.

Aside from Events of Joy, Kisha is also the woman behind the Women in Business Summit (WIB Summit), which is celebrating its 19th year this year! The WIB Summit’s mission is to develop a strong community of women entrepreneurs by providing quality programming and resources that inspire and elevate opportunities for equity. Through these ventures, Kisha has helped build spaces where women can connect, grow, and thrive.

In this episode, Kisha tells us about when she first started the WIB Summit and how she knew she couldn’t do it alone. She shares how important it was for her to build a community of women with skills that worked together to help bring her vision to life. With that, she reached out to women she admired, and together they created an event that empowers women and creates connections.

Community as a First Gen

While building her business, Kisha experienced a life-changing event when she lost her husband in a car accident. This was devastating, but she eventually found strength from her community. She tells us about a moment she shared with a security guard named Glenda who reminded Kisha that community is a big part of moving forward and staying strong through the hardest of times.

Lastly, Kisha shares what she does to prioritize her mental health (therapy, journaling, prayer, dancing, and music). She talks about being intentional about her well-being so that she can continue to uplift and support others through her work. She also encourages us to give back to our community as you never know how the smallest of gestures can make an impact on someone’s journey.
