Welcome back, First Gens! This week we continue our discussion on defying expectations, and we’re so happy to welcome Bianca Alba, “This Latina Travels” to The First Gen Madrina Podcast!
Bianca Alba
Bianca is a proud Latina and first-generation college graduate born in Cochabamba, Bolivia. She’s the eldest of four sisters, a public health professional, and the creator of the podcast “This Latina Travels,” where she shares her journey as a first-gen Latina traveler. Growing up, Bianca did not have the opportunity to travel as much. Bianca, however, turned those dreams into reality, eventually traveling to six out of the seven continents as an adult! Her mission now is to inspire and support women like her to explore the world.
Since she was young, Bianca knew that education was the way to make her dreams come true. Motivated by the sacrifices her mother made, she pursued a bachelor’s degree in public health. Despite the challenges, including navigating college as a first-gen student, Bianca’s hard work paid off. She graduated debt-free and went on to earn her master’s degree in public health. Bianca’s career in public health began with a nonprofit in Washington, D.C., leading her to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Her journey with the CDC took her to New Mexico and then eventually to Puerto Rico. Each step was a leap of faith filled with challenges, such as moving away from family and adjusting to new environments.
Defying Expectations
Though it was difficult, Bianca embraced the experiences that came her way. Living in Puerto Rico during the Zika outbreak was a turning point, allowing her to connect with the community on a deeper level. It was during this time that she started her podcast, sharing her travel experiences and encouraging others to explore the world. For Bianca, defying the norm means living her purpose and breaking free from expectations. She talks about how important self-care, therapy, and solo travel are as for her own personal growth. Traveling has been a big part of her healing process, allowing her to discover herself and live authentically.
To those feeling the pull to step out of their comfort zones, Bianca advises focusing on personal growth and seeking support. Life is too short to be held back by others’ expectations. By prioritizing your happiness and purpose, you can create your own path to success. Follow Bianca through her website https://www.thislatinatravels.com.
