Happy New Year, First Gens! Welcome to 2025 and a brand-new chapter for all of us. We hope that you had a relaxing last few weeks of the year and have enjoyed the holidays if you celebrate! This month’s theme will be…. First Gen Forward: Intention Setting for the New Year!
As we begin the new year, it’s the perfect time to reflect and set intentions for the year ahead. A new year is always exciting and feels like a fresh start. The calendar resets, and we welcome in some intentions, big or small, that we hope to accomplish as the year goes on. For many of us, this time brings a mix of emotions. We carry the weight of our families’ dreams, our personal aspirations, and the responsibility of being trailblazers. It’s a lot to balance, but here’s the good news: setting intentions can help us focus on what truly matters.
First Gen Forward: Intention Setting for the New Year
Unlike New Year’s resolutions, intentions center on alignment and growth. They’re about the “why” behind the “what.” For example, instead of saying, “I want to save $5,000,” you might set an intention like, “I am building financial security so that I can feel at peace and support my family.” This shift in perspective not only motivates us but also keeps us grounded in our values.
Here are four simple steps that can help us to think about what our intentions are for this new year.
1. Choose an area to focus on. What aspects of your life do you want to prioritize for this year? Your career, relationships, finances, health, or personal growth? Pick two or three areas that you want to prioritize this year. Don’t try to do it all at once! Less is more when it comes to this.
2. Create an affirmative statement. Tell yourself that this is happening. This will help to shift your mindset. A great example is something like: “I am nurturing my mental and physical health with compassion and consistency.”
3. Align your intentions with actions. Think of small, actionable steps that will bring your intention to life. If your focus is on building community, you could join a local group or attend a networking event.
4. Share your intentions. We talk about this all the time but community matters. Share your intentions with someone you trust, whether it’s a friend, mentor, or even your Madrina. Accountability and support can make all the difference.
As we begin this journey into 2025, remember that you are writing a story no one has written before. Make it meaningful and true to who you are. Let’s set the tone for a year filled with growth, alignment, and success. You’ve got this, and your Madrina is always here to cheer you on every step of the way!
