Hannah is the Senior Communications and Outreach Coordinator at Aspire Institute, bringing her background in graphic design and storytelling to amplify the voices of first-gen students worldwide. Passionate about uplifting underrepresented communities, she uses her skills to connect students with lifechanging opportunities. Jenna, the Communications and Outreach Director, has been with Aspire for three years and has played a really important role in the institute’s growth. With a deep commitment to education and social impact, she works to expand Aspire’s reach and make sure first gen students feel supported in their journeys.
Aspire Institute
As we are all used to, being a first-gen student can mean facing unique challenges, from navigating college applications alone to dealing with financial and emotional burdens. Aspire Institute recognizes these struggles and provides a global support system to help students succeed academically and professionally. Their Aspire Leaders Program, co-founded in 2017 by Harvard Business School professors, offers participants the chance to grow as leaders, build a worldwide network, and access funding opportunities.
Aspire’s program is a nine-week accessible, engaging, and impactful program for students currently in university or recently graduated. Participants develop leadership skills, interact with global peers, and take a specialized course designed by Harvard educators. There are also masterclasses from top professionals and mentors who provide invaluable guidance. And remember, this is all FREE. There are no fees for applications or tuition for the courses. Aspire ensures that students from all backgrounds can participate without financial barriers.
Supporting First Gens
Beyond the benefit of education, Aspire also creates a sense of belonging. First gen students worldwide have the ability to connect and realize they are not alone in their struggles. This community aspect is so important in managing imposter syndrome and making sure students feel empowered rather than isolated and alone. Aspire also provides financial support for students who complete both modules of the program. Their grants and seed funds help participants pursue academic advancements, certifications, and social impact projects. Imagine having an innovative idea and receiving funding to bring it to life. That’s the kind of transformative support Aspire offers!
When I think back on my own college experience, I wish I would have had opportunities like this. Now, my mission is to ensure our community knows about the resources available to them. Whether you’re a student or a recent grad, take that step. Say yes to opportunities, connect with people who inspire you, and don’t be afraid to reach out for support. Your journey is just beginning, and organizations like Aspire Institute are here to help! Check out more about Aspire here: https://www.aspireleaders.org/program/aspire-leaders-program/.
