First Generation Programming Services

Welcome back, First Gens! It’s the end of the month so, as we close out April, we want to thank you for joining as for our theme, Celebrating Neurodiversity as a First Gen.

To wrap up the month, I have put together a list of resources that were shared by our incredible guests this month. These aren’t sponsored and I have not personally used all of them, but we know it’s important to share what’s been helpful to others in our community. If anything sparks your interest, we encourage you to do more research or talk to a licensed healthcare provider to explore further.

Our guest Victoria Carrington Chavez recommended two powerful reads: Unmasked by Ellie Middleton and Autistic and Black by Kala Allen Omeiza. Both offer insightful, personal perspectives on ADHD, autism, and the broader neurodivergent experience. She also recommended the TEDx Talk Ain’t No Shame in My ADHD Brain by Torrian Timms, definitely worth watching!

If you’re more of a visual learner, Dr. Sasha Hamdani, a board-certified psychologist and ADHD clinical specialist, creates helpful, bite-sized videos on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. You can also check out ADDitude Magazine, a fantastic resource packed with articles and support for people living with ADHD.

Other gems include the YouTube channel How to ADHD and a moving article in HipLatina titled My Experience Being Neurodivergent and Having ADHD as a Latina. And if you’re in California, neurodiversity specialist Felicitas Nungaray offers therapy and workshops through her page @neuroseeds_byfeli.

Resources

For those considering coaching, Isaac Akinde and the team at ADHD Works offer coaching, training, and workplace resources. They’re a great place to start if you’re exploring support beyond traditional therapy.

Let’s continue to break down the stigma and seek the help we deserve. You are not alone on this journey. You’ve always got a Madrina in your corner.
