Welcome back, First Gens! This week, we are continuing to chat about this month’s theme: Reclaiming Our Roots as First Gens! In this episode, we welcome special guest, Akary Busto!
Akary is an emotional biohacker and founder of Uhkare Mind, Body, Soul. She teaches women how to regulate their nervous systems, rebalance their hormones, and rebuild metabolic resilience. For Akary, honoring the major human design cycles that shape their emotional and physical lives is extremely important. Her work blends somatic repair, breathwork, and heart-brain coherence.
Akary Busto

Like many first gens, Akary grew up living on the hyphen. She often found herself caught between cultures, languages, and expectations. In our episode, Akary shares how moving from Mexico to the United States at a young age meant becoming the bridge between her family and the outside world. As a child, she translated language, culture, and systems for her parents while also trying to figure out who she was.
During our chat, we spent time discussing human design and conditioning that society, family expectations, and cultural pressures place on us. According to Akary, human design offers a framework for rediscovering who we were before the pressure to be perfect. For first gens, that idea can feel very liberating.
Reclaiming Our Roots
This episode is all about reclaiming our roots. As first gens, many of us grew up with unspoken rules about success. These rules often told us to prioritize family and not question the sacrifices that were made for us. However, reclaiming our roots doesn’t just mean reconnecting with culture. It also means reconnecting with ourselves.
Overall, Akary reminds us that healing begins with something simple yet powerful: connection to the heart. In a world where we’re constantly thinking and planning, we often forget to pause and listen to what our bodies are telling us. As first gens, we often carry the weight of survival. We must remember to take time and slow down, breathe, and reconnect with ourselves. Remember that you don’t have to navigate this journey alone. Your Madrina is always in your corner. The First Gen Madrina

The First Gen Madrina is built on three interconnected branches designed to support first-generation students and professionals in wellbeing, wealth, and community:
Madrina Money focuses on financial wellness through a first-gen lens. This branch supports individuals in unpacking money stories, building sustainable wealth, and gaining the confidence and tools needed to make empowered financial decisions without shame or judgment.
Madrina Network is dedicated to supporting social work students and professionals. Through resources, coaching, community, and conversations beyond traditional paths, this branch helps social workers navigate burnout, career growth, and non-traditional opportunities while staying aligned with their values.
Madrina Speaks centers on storytelling, speaking, and education. Through workshops, keynotes, panels, and the podcast, this branch creates space for honest conversations about first-generation experiences, identity, money, and purpose helping individuals feel seen, supported, and empowered.
Together, these branches reflect the heart of The First Gen Madrina: breaking cycles, building confidence, and supporting first-gens as they step into lives of intention, impact, and abundance.
