Welcome back, First Gens!

This week, we continue our discussion on defying expectations by welcoming our newest guest, Dominique O’Gorman! Dominque shares with us her amazing and incredibly fascinating journey as a medium, psychic, and death worker who’s defying expectations and breaking generational cycles.

Dominique O’ Gorman

Dominique The First Gen Madrina

Dominique grew up in a religious family in the deep South. As a spiritual person, she received a lot of pushback from her family. However, despite the societal and familial pressures, Dominique embraced her calling. Through her work, she helps people connect with loved ones on the other side and guides them through their grief. She offers a much-needed support system during some of life’s most challenging transitions.

During our conversation with Dominique, we asked what self care looks like for her. Dominique shared with us her commitment to redefining what self-care looks like overall. She emphasized the importance of finding self-care practices that resonate personally, rather than conforming to what society expects self care to look like. For Dominique, self-care means spending quiet time on her front porch, practicing mindfulness, and being present in the moment. This is really important for her, especially due to emotional demands of her work.

Dominique also shared her experience with breaking intergenerational cycles, particularly through the lens of parenting. She shares with us how important it is to apologize to her children and maintain open, honest communication. By doing so, she has created a supportive environment where her children feel heard and respected, paving the way for healthier relationships and emotional well-being.

Defying The Norm/Defying Expectations

Dominique shares with us the importance of giving ourselves grace when managing expectations from ourselves and from others. She believes that setting unrealistic expectations, both for ourselves and others, can be incredibly damaging. Through her work, Dominique provides support to those transitioning out of life and their families, advocating for open conversations about death and grief. This work, often stigmatized and misunderstood, is so important in helping people find peace and closure. Dominique’s approach challenges societal norms and encourages us to get comfortable with discomfort, ultimately leading us to healing and growth.

Overall, Dominique has broken through generational cycles and really defied expectations. Her spiritual journey and her career is not something many may understand and often may push a lot of boundaries. Whether you’re a first-gen or navigating your own unique journey, Dominique reminds us that it’s possible to be ourselves, build our own paths, and create a brighter future for ourselves and future generations.
