Welcome back, First Gens! As we enter the last month of 2024 (can you believe it?!), we want to take some time to reflect on this past year. What have we learned? What can we work on? For December, instead of a single theme, your First Gen Madrina, is taking some time to reflect and think about the growth, challenges, and victories we have gone through before the podcast takes a brief break to recharge for 2025.
In this episode, I share how 2024 was a transformative year for me, filled with both personal and professional milestones. From taking the leap on my entrepreneurial journey to celebrating my first full year living in Florida, the experiences have been life-changing, and I have learned so much about myself. As I reflect on my journey, I want to leave you with three takeaways that I found important in 2024.
Reflections as a First Gen
First, I talk about the importance of embracing abundance. Growing up with financial uncertainty, including seeing my mom loose a long-term job during the 2011 recession, created a belief that abundance maybe was not meant to last. As a social worker, I am often told that my chosen career journey was “for the outcome, not the income.” However, through my entrepreneurial journey, I continue to rewrite these stories, advocating for fair compensation to helping professions and recognizing my own worth along the way. I hope to teach others how to do the same!
The second lesson I share is the value of taking calculated risks. Moving to Florida, a state far from my family, was a leap of faith, but it ultimately opened doors to personal growth and new opportunities. This decision also gave me the courage to take another risk: leaving my 9-to-5 job to pursue entrepreneurship full-time. While I acknowledge the fears and challenges that come with these risks, I have learned that growth rarely happens in comfort zones.
I Am Worthy of Abundance.
Lastly, I reflect on the power of believing in yourself. I talk about the many opportunities that came my way because others saw my potential. It wasn’t until I truly learned to believed in myself that I could fully embrace them. This shift in mindset empowered me to dream big and step boldly into my goals for 2025.
